She is a former collegiate ice hockey defenseman and coach. She played for the University of North Dakota (UND) women's hockey team from 2009 to 2013. During her freshman year, she was selected to represent the United States at the 2010 IIHF World Women's U18 Championship.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 2013, Slavin transitioned into coaching. She served as an assistant coach for the Lady RoughRiders U14 Tier II AA team, which advanced to the national tournament in the 2013–2014 season. The following year, she was appointed head coach of the U16 Tier II team for the Rocky Mountain Lady RoughRiders, Co-Coach of the first ever U14 AAA Team Colorado, and assisted CAHA as the vice president of women’s hockey. In 2016 she directed the tier 1 program for the Lady RoughRiders in addition to coaching U16AAA team advancing to districts.
