We are deeply saddened to inform you that one of our fellow Jaguars, Mitchell Larsen, passed away on Monday, June 24 due to an accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Larsen family. They have asked for privacy at this time and we would appreciate your support in honoring that request.
Mitchell was a late 2004 birth year Jaguar approaching his fifteenth birthday this coming October. He started playing for Hyland when he was a Mite in our 8U Program and represented Hyland every year after that while playing last season for our Bantam A team. With his older brother Andrew being a Jaguar Alumni, Mitchell has been a part of our Hyland family even before he skated as a Jaguar himself.
We know this loss will impact our players and families in different ways and we recognize that you may want or need additional support. Judi's House Services (judishouse.org) for grieving children and families has been recommended to us. This is a free service available to anyone as needed. We also have additional support options available within our hockey community. Please do not hesitate to reach out.
Memorial services will be held after the July 4th holiday and details will be shared as soon as we have that. In lieu of flowers, the Larsens would like families to instead consider providing a donation to a Scholarship Fund to be set up in Mitchell's honor. Since hockey was Mitchell's passion, the Larsens would like to help children in need of monetary assistance to be able to play the sport he loved so dearly at Hyland in the future.
We have #88 helmet stickers available for our players to wear proudly on their helmets. They are available at the Hyland Hockey Office and at the Ice Centre Pro Shop (please be sure to check for Pro Shop hours).
For those of you close with Mitchell and his family, we will have a skate this Friday evening at 5:30pm. Players must be dressed in full gear.
We know this is a very difficult time for our Hyland Family and it is especially challenging for our players, who all loved Mitchell so dearly. Please help us bring our community together to support each other and the Larsen family. In loving memory of Mitchell and with our deepest condolences to the Larsen family,
